Delhi’s culinary palate is quite diverse but the love for kebabs unites the city’s residents. Being in Delhi, we were exposed to the best of kebabs, thanks to Haji Banda Hasan aka, Khan Chacha. Born in Saharanpur in 1948, Hasan moved to Old Delhi in 1960 and learned to make kebab and tikka in Jama Masjid. His stall in Old Delhi would invite customers with the intoxicating aromas of the sumptuous kebab delicacies.

In 1972, he moved to Khan Market and opened a small corner shop and introduced mutton tikka and mutton seekh kebab and Roomali Roll. Later, his sons, and Mohammad Javed and Mohammad Saleem joined him and learnt the art of making kebabs. Not just among Delhiites, Khan Chacha became a hit among Bollywood celebrities, sports personalities, artists and politicians, too.

“Later in 2000, we introduced Chicken Tikka, Paneer Tikka, Chicken Seekh Kabab, Chicken Malai Tikka, and even various dishes for vegetarians,” says Saleem. Javed adds, “Our father is a true professional who never compromised on quality and strives for new recipes. We put our soul and heart in our cooking.”

And now, the age-old brand is rebranding itself as Rule the Rolls. Talking about the new venture, Saleem, says, “We opened our new brand called Rule the Rolls in Galleria Gurgaon on numerous requests. We have gained the confidence of our clients who visit on a regular basis. Our extension in recipes in this outlet also includes traditional Mughlai dishes like chicken stew, mutton haleem and chicken kofta. Many other dishes are in the pipeline.” They are also looking forward to expanding the brand with multiple branches in Delhi-NCR.
